St Bernadette's Parish Magazine

The aim is to produce an interesting and informative magazine, within a Christian ethos, to foster a spirit of community within the parish and also in the wider area in which we live.

Embrace, our parish magazine, first appeared in July 1997 with 12 pages plus cover, edited by Joy Burkitt.  The present Editor, Margaret Robinson, took over in the spring of 1999 with the Easter edition.  Embrace is now published quarterly and it is surprising how quickly the quarters go by.  There is always a mad scramble to get it printed in time for the published date.  

We try to include reports from parish organisations, both for events that have yet to come and to review those that have passed.  Articles on topics of interest are always welcomed as are poems and items of fiction.  There are several regular contributors but it would be helpful to have someone appointed from each parish organisation to keep the Editor informed.

Revenue from sales of the magazine and from advertising goes towards the Centre Fund.  Many publications depend on their advertising revenue for their existence.  Embrace does not, but nevertheless, it would be excellent for the parish if the advertising were to increase.  Anyone interested in helping to sell advertising space would be welcomed with open arms!

The rates are:

£75 for a full page

£40 for a half page

£25 for a quarter page

Payment is due when space is ordered and is for the year.  A discount is allowed for renewal after the first year.  The price for the magazine is £1 per issue.

The Editor belongs to the Association of Church Editors ( www.ac-editors.co.uk ) which has been most helpful.  There is an occasional competition for the best church magazine.  Embrace has entered twice and despite favourable comments, has not yet won the prize!

A Children's Page has been introduced recently but more contributions from young people would be appreciated.
